New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory, January 12, 2015 – The 108th NYRR Millrose Games are just around the corner. Taking place on Saturday, February 14th, the NYRR Millrose Games will feature some of the biggest names in professional track and field including Olympic gold medalists Sanya Richards-Ross, Jenn Suhr and Ashton Eaton. A plethora of young, eager high school and youth athletes will also compete, some of which will likely be the future professional stars of the sport.

For many of these young up-and-comers, the first stop on the road to the NYRR Millrose Games is the NYRR Millrose Games Trials, taking place on Wednesday, January 14th.

Luke Gavigan of Tappan Zee HS is one of the favorites to win the NYRR Millrose Games Trials mile. He’s made a name for himself in the distance running community, having made seven New Balance Nationals trips and winning last year’s NYRR Millrose Games Trials and NYRR Millrose Games New Balance miles.

Richard Rose of Boys and Girls HS will be one to look for as he leads his team in the PSAL 4x400m relay. The reigning New Balance Nationals Indoor 400m champion was the first athlete to ever win the Armory’s Bishop Loughlin Games 600m three years in a row (with an impressive 1:18.40 clocking at last month’s event).

Newburgh HS is deeply talented in the sprints and will be featured in the boys Rockland/Orange 4x400m relay. During the recent EmblemHealth Hispanic Games at The Armory, Newburgh ran away from the 4x200m field to a US number one ranked time of 1:28.56.

The boys CHSAA 4x800m relay will feature a talented field of teams including Xavier HS and Archbishop Molloy HS. These two schools took first and second in the event at this season’s Bishop Loughlin Games, running 8:03.77 and 8:09.15 respectively.

John Putnam of Massapequa HS will be the man to beat in the boys weight throw. With his season’s best mark of 62’ 10”, Putnam will enter the Trials ranked second in the country in the event. Cameron Thompson of Lakeland Panas HS will be Putnam’s greatest threat after taking the nation’s number three spot with a throw of 60’ 4.75” at the recent EmblemHealth Hispanic Games.

Brooke Nohilly of John Jay HS, Erin McLaughlin of Vorhees HS, Jamie Grossman of Harborfields HS, Kassidy Ayres of Tappan Zee HS, Paige Duca of Friends Academy, Sam Peterman of Sweet Home HS and Rachel Suss of Metuchen HS can all say that they’ve competed at New Balance Nationals and will make up half of the stacked girls mile field.

Sarah Militano of Miller Place HS has proven to be one of the fastest girls in the country and will enter the Trials’ 55m dash ranked fifth in the nation in the event. She’ll go up against Ariel Strunkey of Taft Educational Campus, who holds the nation’s number 10 ranking in the event.

Paul Robeson HS will be one of the favorites in the girls PSAL 4x400m relay. The team has already won multiple sprint relay events at The Armory this season and will look to turn heads amongst a talented field.

Last year, Monae Cooper won the Trials weight throw and took second at the Games. The New Rochelle athlete will enter the Trials ranked third in the nation at 47’ 10.75”. Holy Trinity HS’s Kristina Insingo finished sixth at the Trials in 2014 and will start the meet with the confidence of knowing that her 47’ 8” mark from this past month is national ranked 4th.
